I've been absent for the last few weeks because I managed to hurt myself skiing 2 weeks ago. I said I wouldn't ski and what did I do, take a ski lesson and fall in love with it. First day was great and the second day not so great. The snow had iced over and was very slick, and on the dang first run of the day I hit a "push pile" and fell and tore the ACL and MCL ligaments in my left leg.
I'm on pain pills and trying to get work done before my surgery next week. I'll be out of commission for a whole week and it will probably take another week to really get back into the swing of things. I chose to have a cadaver donor ligament put in to create a new ACL. The MCL (on the inside of the knee) will repair itself without surgery, it just takes time.
Needless to say I managed to meet my insurance deductible by the end of this month, so I'm free and clear for the rest of the year. Shitty part is I need to fork out $2,500 now. I'm looking at physical therapy 3-4 times a week for 9-12 weeks. It may need to go longer depending on my progression. I've been perusing the internet and most people say to spend 1 hour a day on the stationary bike to really get your knee back to as close to normal as possible. Overall, it takes 1 year for your new ACL to get to its strongest capabilities. I'll have to make some minor lifestyle changes, such as no sharp pivots on the left knee, etc. I'll let you know how the surgery was next week. Meanwhile, enjoy this video a friend emailed me today. I want this cat bad, and I'm not even a cat person!
