Flight of the Concordes

A big group of cousins and uncles and girlfriends are going to see the Flight of the Conchords show tonight. We're super excited, because Hubby & I have thought they were funny since our cousins introduced us to this video:



For those of you who are unfamiliar with Flight of the Conchords, it's a New Zealand comedy duo who have a show on HBO. They have a comedy/musically inspired show that showcases their dry humor and funny song-writing capabilities. They even won a Grammy in 2008 for "Best Comedy Duo." The show tonight it to wrap up their current season of their TV show. I'm looking forward to laughing my butt off with our large group of family and friends.

Comedy Show

Just heard this morning on a radio ad that comedian Nick Swardson is playing a show here in town! Tickets go on sale tomorrow and I'm buying a pair. For those of you who don't know who Nick is, he plays Terry on Reno 911, was in Grandma's Boy, Don't Mess With The Zohan, Chuck & Larry (gay brother of Eva Mendes).

Concert Review

Last night hubby and I had a wonderful evening out which included dinner at Saba and the Eric Hutchinson/ O.A.R. concert. Hubby had never been to Saba, so we decided to kick off the evening there and sample their chicken quesadillas and crispy calamari. The food was good, but it did take ridiculously long to get our drinks. We laughed and giggled the whole dinner and it was a really nice date night.

Afterwards, we headed over to the Music Hall right when Eric Hutchinson began his opening set. His band was very good and his music is quite catchy. I don't think all of his songs are great enough for radio play, but he is a very solid performer. Sounds just like his CD, which is always a plus. The only thing that bothered us was his horrible haircut. It looked like a bowl-cut from the 80's. I know he's playing up that dorky, boy next door kinda vibe, but seriously, cut the hair. He ran through 10 songs and ended the set with Rock Roll, his most popular song currently on the radio.



O.A.R. took to the stage around 10pm, which is way past my normal bedtime (lame, I know). Hubby and I were both feeling tired, but agreed we would try to make it as long as possible. We had posted up behind the sound booth, because it provided the best view of the stage and the best sound. We were able to see the set list, and were a bit bummed to see the three songs we really wanted to hear were being saved for the Encore! This meant we would have to last for 15 songs, which is about an hour and a half. We sucked it up once the band started playing because they sounded awesome! They opened up with Love and Memories, and old school song that I love.


Hubby and I stuck it out until the first song in the Encore, which is their current radio hit "Shattered."


We finally called it a night around 12:30am, and knew we were going to be wicked tired for work today. It was totally worth it, we had a great dinner, saw an awesome free concert and really had a good time enjoying each other's company. Cheesy, I know!

Concert Announcement

I've been keeping my fingers crossed since last year that the band One Republic would add our city to their tour. Lo and behold, my wish finally came true! One Republic is playing in November and I just purchased my tickets. For those of you not familiar with One Republic, they performed on the tv show So You Think You Can Dance last summer and instantly shot to fame with their hit "Apologize."


The newest song on the radio is "Say," and I really love this song. I have the entire cd, and I actually like all the songs on it, which is why I am so excited to see them in concert.


Oh, and it doesn't hurt the lead singer, Teddy, is cute!

I Love Me Some Robin Thicke

I'm diggin' his new song "Magic." I don't have a clue about what's going on in the music video, but whatever. I think he's hot so I'll let it go this time.

Get your ACL party hats on!

It's that time of year again, time for ACL to invade Zilker Park. For all of you who aren't familiar with ACL, it stands for the Austin City Limits Festival. It's a three day event where over 100 bands come to perform for about 60,000 concert-goers. You can buy 3-day passes for around $170 or they sell single day tickets.

The list of performers is quite eclectic every year and there is always buzz about who the headliners will be. This year some of the bands I would be interested in seeing are The Raconteurs, N.E.R.D., and Iron & Wine. Those are really the only bands I would want to see and for they all play on different nights so I would need a 3-day ticket. If you break it down, it would be costing me around $55 each night to see the three bands. It's just not worth it to me. It's going to be quite toasty during the day and I get cranky when I'm overheated. Plus, who can really enjoy themselves when they're sweating to death and pretty much sweating thru your bra? Not me!

While the concept of ACL Fest sounds fun, I prefer more intimate venues. I love seeing concerts at Stubb's or Antone's. You get less of a crowd, easier access to food vendors and bathrooms. Plus you stay in one area for the concert. At ACL, you have to run all over the park to see the specific performers you wish to see.

For the complete lineup, check out ACL Fest . For all of you brave enough to go out to the festival, stay dehydrated! No one likes a party-pooper who gets dehydrated and passes out. I've actually done that once, and it is quite a buzz kill for those around you!
