As most of you know, I've recently joined the Facebook community. I know, it's been a long time coming. While it seems impossible in this day and age, I've managed to not have a personal MySpace page. I never understood the lure of having a MySpace page where I could chat with friends and leave written messages and post pictures for the world to see. Let's face it, we've all seen and heard the stories of girls posting pictures of themselves in provacative poses that have caused them trouble at work or school. I just didn't see the allure of letting my "info" hang out in webspace.
Being that I've joined Facebook (the less intrusive cousin to MySpace) I've come accross a few things I'd like to discuss. First off, putting your info out may lead to unwanted "friend requests" such as from an old boyfriend/girlfriend. Is it polite to simply hit Ignore or should you also leave a message stating why you are ingnoring their request?
Second, what the hell is "poking" someone? It sounds dirty if you ask me! No, it seems like you couldn't take the time to write a few lines to say hello, so you just poke them. I still don't get it.
Third, you have to realize that people from all stages of your life could find you and try to make contact. For example, I have not talked or seen my cousin's (from my father's side of the family) in over 10 years. I decided to do a quick search for them and voila, guess who I found. I have no interest in contacting them, but if I could find them that easy, who could find me that easily? My biological dad, perhaps? I haven't seen or heard from him in 8 years and, again, have no desire to initiate contact (another story for a different day).
Alas, I am enjoying the special "Girls" group where we can easily upload pictures for the group to share privately. It makes it easy to share the pictures in one spot and not send a million emails. I'm all about simplicity (for the most part).
Call me old fashion, but my "future babies" will not be spending so much damn time on the computer and Internet. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if you called me old-fashioned, I sometime refer to my clothes drier as "that drying machine!"

WTF?
Sometimes I wonder about my Mother-in-Law, and I'm sure I'm not the only person to ever do so. I love her dearly, but I often question the way she is raising her 16 year old daughter.
Of course my Sister-in-law was trying to act cool since our band friends were in town and you could tell she really wanted to go downtown with us. Um, hello, you're 16, shouldn't you be studying or something?!
So Saturday morning my MIL calls to see how our friends enjoyed the downtown festivities, when she mentioned Taylor should have gone with us. Again, HELLO, she's a freakin' 16 year old who has no business hanging out with 28 year old people downtown. I don't care if she would have been with her brother and me, why would we ever accept responsibility to look after her downtown? She probably would have conveniently gotten "separated" from us and tried to get into other bars.
I know she's not my daughter, and it's a damn good thing. I'd have given her an ass-whoopin' a long time ago and set her straight. I'm not going to lie and say I never went into a club underage, I was 19 and I didn't drink. My SIL clearly wants to party and drink. Ugg, what is this world coming to? Teenagers who so desperately want to be adults and middle-age adults who so desperately want their childhood back!

And the band plays on...
What a whirlwind weekend I had! Friday morning my hubby picked up three good friends of ours that had flown in from Orlando, Florida to play beautiful music at my Mother-in-Laws' birthday party. Our three friends are absolutely amazing guys and they are in a band and we're always pestering them to come visit us, so the party was a perfect excuse!
I attempted to hang with the boys and go downtown Friday night, but I fell asleep and missed out on experiencing Biker Week and Gay Pride week downtown. Maybe next year! We enjoyed an afternoon of boating and jet skiing Saturday morning and then prepared for the party around 8pm. Needless to say, there was a lot of alcohol and singing going on and we danced the night away. Now, I'm normally lame and go to bed around 10ish, but I actually hung until 4am! After the cops were called well into the midnight hour, the singing got a tad bit lower and the cops didn't come back (It's not a true party until the cops are called 6 times, a la Halloween party!).
Eventually the music slowed but the drinking and eating and talking continued well into the early hours of the morning. Inhibitions were lowered by all due to being deliriously tired and needless to say, I learned more about my cousin's "manscaping" habits than I care to remember! Wine was spilled, food was devoured and laughter continued until 4am. We strong-armed my Father-in-Law into making chocolate chip pancakes so we could fall asleep satiated and content.
It's a wonderful thing to have great friends who eventhough you can't physically spend time with them on a regular basis, you feel like time hasn't passed when you see them. I'm in need of a relaxing weekend to recover from lack of sleep and overstimulation, too bad I'm attending a bachelorette party this weekend!

Graduation
I read an article about a high school graduation ceremony over the weekend in South Carolina. Apparently, the school has a rule that so cheering or clapping is allowed as names are being called to receive their diploma's so that every one's name can be heard. I understand the logistics of the rule, but was it really necessary to arrest and charge 7 people who they caught cheering?
Those arrested maintain it wasn't even outrageously loud cheering, more like a quick hoot and first-in-air thrusting. Big freaking deal! I still think it was a bit overboard to arrest the family members and friends who were excited.
This story made me think back to my college graduation in 2000. Given my whole family drama, my mom and sister snuck away and brought my grandparents to watch me walk and receive my college diploma. Seven or eight of my good friends and my now husband came to cheer me on as well. If my hazy memory serves me right, I think light applause and cheering was allowed. What I don't think was allowed were the beer and flasks that my lovely group brought along to make the ceremony go by faster!
I just remember my mom shaking her head when we were laughing about it when the ceremony was finally over. I managed to graduate in 3 years so I didn't have a ton of friend/colleges at that particular graduation. I didn't want to sit next to some guy or girl I didn't know, so I cut the line and went to the back to be with the few friends that were also graduating that day. By doing this, I threw the line and seating out of whack and it was really funny because it was in alphabetical order.
I'm releaved we didn't have stricter rules at my graduation, because chances are they would have arrested the whole group of friends and me for disorderly conduct!
