R.I.P.

Estelle Getty, who played Sophia on the "Golden Girls" TV show passed away yesterday. I used to watch this show with my grandmother and I still watch it late at night when Jason is out of town. Somehow it's comforting to me and I don't get scared when I'm home alone at night.

Estelle reminded me of my grandmother; a sharp witted, no nonsense kind of lady. Here are some of my favorite quotes by Estelle's character, Sophia.

Rose: Sophia, why are you in such a bad mood?
Sophia: Excuse me Rose, but I haven't had sex in fifteen years and its starting to get on my nerves.

Dorothy: Hi, ma. Where are you going?
Sophia: To the boardwalk. I like to watch the old guys rearrange themselves when they come out of the water.

Blanche: I treat my body like a temple.
Sophia: Yeah, open to everyone, day or night.

[Dorothy has brought home a pamphlet that shows Sophia might be losing her hearing]
Sophia: Oh, please Dorothy. Every time you bring home a pamphlet, I have that problem. One time I even thought I was a Jew for Jesus.

Sophia: If I met a man who was over seventy but still looked half-way decent, I'd be on my back faster than you could say, "I've fallen and I can't get up!"

Golden Girls is my all time favorite show, I have the entire series on dvd and I watch it frequently. I would estimate I have seen every episode at least 5-10 times and I still laugh out loud. I especially like to watch it when I am sick because there is definitely something comforting about it.
I have always said that when I am an old lady I want to be just like her character Sophia, and those quotes are exactly why. she is a blunt old lady that speaks the truth and is sarcastic as hell.
Good tribute:)
