The Boars have it all...

My mother is in court this week battling against the college both my sister and I attended. Our university bragged on and on about how they were a "green" college. Well, the reason it was a green college was because they built it on swamp land and had to meet certain measures to protect the flora and fauna. Fauna in Florid includes alligators, bobcats and last but not least, wild boars.

Sometime around 2004 I believe, my mother was attending courses on campus and after a long day of classes, left the central building to head to her car with a colleuge. While they were heading towards the boardwalk to the parking lot, they heard a rustle behind them and turned around to face a family of wild boars. There were several babies in the mix, which would explain their aggressiveness this day.

My mom and her collegue brainstormed the best thing to do, and since the boars were blockign the entrance to the building, they had no choice by try and make it to their car. While they were running and being persued by the boars, my mom fell, and landed on her arm. Her friend rushed back to help her up and they made it to the car without being harmed by the boars. In the fall, my mother ended up breaking her arm something terrible and the bone actually penetrated the skin. In the drama that would ensue, the ambulances were called, she was taken to the hospital and it was deemed necessary to proceed with surgery. The break was so bad she had metal plates attached to her bone!

Needless to say, it was a painful surgery and long hours of therapy were in the future. She had neck problems and the metal plates proved to be irritating and she eventually had them removed earlier this year. After almost 4 years of battling the university, the case if finally in court. The university is trying to claim no fault and all my mother wants is the amount to cover surgery. Now the university it trying to claim the boars were nocturnal and only come out at night and there is not that many on campus. I call bullshit, because I almost ran into 3-5 of the with my car ,during the day AND night, while going to school there.

I'll let you know how the proceedings go, as it may take a full week for the jury to reach it's decision.

The court system is a travesty! They ruled on the side of the university, such bullshit.
